Preschool/Purefoy Site Administration
Maria Dickinson is the Executive Director of Chapel Hill Cooperative Preschool. She earned her B.A. in Education and Social Work. She joined the CHCP family in 1999. She has been working with children for over 17 years.
Shaunta’ Jones is the Administrative Assistant at the Preschool Site. She graduated from North Carolina Central University in 2010 with a B.A. in Psychology. She has six years’ experience working with children.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our exuberant one-year-old, Kennedy. I take special interest in photographing our family’s special moments and sewing creations for my daughter and our home. -Shaunta’
IT Site Administration
Arlene Owens, Program Coordinator at the IT Site , is originally from the island of Trinidad and Tobago. She has been with the CHCP family since 2008. She moved to New York as a teen and lived there until moving to North Carolina with her family in 2002. Arlene graduated from Greensboro College with a B.A. and has over 20 years of experience in the field of early childhood education.
Jessica Allred graduated from UNC-Greensboro (Go Spartans!) with a major in human development and family studies with a concentration in early care education. She is married and has a a dog-daughter named Lilly. She grew up in North Carolina but was born in California and her family comes from Guatemala, known for its beautiful mountains. Jessica enjoys learning different languages and exploring other cultures. She ensures that children are learning in a safe, nurturing and respectful environment.
Dionne Blackwell is a graduate of North Carolina Central University where she studied business and education. She has been working with children for nearly 7 years and she is continuing her studies in Early Childhood Education. She is dedicated to the social and emotional development of each child and is a teacher at the IT site.
Kathy Davis is a Lead Teacher at the IT site with an A.S. in Early Childhood Education; she started at CHCP in 2001. She lives in Hillsborough with her husband Mario and their three daughters, Emeline, Camila, and Maddox, all of whom graduated from CHCP.
The past 15 years CHCP has given me a wonderful sense of community through families, children and co-workers. -Kathy
Tabitha Gaskin is a Lead Teacher at the IT Site. She earned her B.A. in Psychology in December 2003 from UNC-CH, and her A.A.S. in Early Childhood Education from Stanley Community College. She joined the CHCP family in 2006 and has been working with children since 2005.
My husband and I have a lovely daughter named Ladionna who is a graduate of the IT Site and Preschool. I love seeing all of the children and families. Work at CHCP is so rewarding. – Tabitha
Carolyn Hamilton is a Floater/Lead Teacher at the Preschool. She has a degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Child Development and Family Relations from East Carolina University.
I love to bike, run, hike and walk my dog, Cali. It makes me happy to spend time with her and my partner Marques while we cook and listen to good tunes. Most of my family lives in NC. My dad lives in the bay of California and I love to visit him and travel to new places. -Carolyn
Kim “Kimmy” Hargrove is a Lead Teacher at the IT Site. She has her Associates in Early Childhood Education and just earned her B.A. in Early Childhood Education from UNC-Greensboro in December 2015. She has been with the CHCP family since 2004 and has been working with children since 1997. Her and her husband Darrell live in Mebane, her hometown.
We enjoy playing games and watching movies. Family time is a must with good food and laughter. CHCP has been my family for the past 10 1/2 years. Being here has brought me lasting friendships and so much joy. I love the children and families and I am better because of my time here at the school. Go Spartans!-Kimmy
Emily Harrawood is a Lead Teacher at the Preschool. She received her B.A. in Art History from the University of Mary Washington in 2008, and her NC Early Childhood Credential in 2014. She is continuing her coursework in the Early Childhood Education field at North Carolina Central University.
I grew up in Chapel Hill and attended Chapel Hill Cooperative Preschool as a student 25 years ago! When I’m not teaching, I coach at a local CrossFit gym, play drums in a rock band, and volunteer with UNC Hospice and Home Health. -Emily
Emma Johnson, Lead Teacher at the Preschool, is a graduate of Appalachian State University in 2009 with a degree in Child Development. She has five years of experience working with children.
I am originally from Chapel Hill and I attended CHCP as a child! I enjoy reading, spending time with family and friends, and being outdoors. -Emma
Eppie Landis is a Lead Teacher at the Preschool. She has her Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education. She started at CHCP in high school, and then became full time in 2009. Her family moved from Muncie, Indiana in 1993 but with 20+ years here, she considers herself a Chapel Hill native. Her mom is a 2nd grade dual-language teacher and her dad is a professor of nutrition. Here sister Sarah is at UNC and her brother Will is at UNCG.
CHCP has always felt like home to me. Over the past few years I have made so many fulfilling relationships with co-workers, parents and children. I truly believe in the school and the work that the teachers do here. I can’t wait to see what is ahead in the future for CHCP. – Eppie
Shavonne McClure, Lead Teacher at the Preschool, has a B.S. in Child Development from BYU-Idaho (2010) and worked two years at Head Start in Idaho.
I grew up in Las Vegas, NV and love sunshine! I am the youngest of six children and have many nieces and nephews. My husband Joshua and I enjoy spending time at the beach and camping. In my free time, I like playing games, reading and playing the piano.
Kendra Morrow is working on her Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education. She has been with the CHCP family since 2013, and has been working with children since 2006. Kendra has a child at the IT site.

Yonina Powell is a floater at the IT site. She earned her A.S. in Early Childhood in 2013 and is currently in an online program for human services with a concentration in Children & Families at Kaplan University. She served Child Care Services Association (CCSA) through the AmeriCorps Early T.E.A.C.H. Program in 2006. Yonina lives in Durham, is married to Mike, and has two kids who provide year-round opportunities to be their #1 cheerleader for their many sporting endeavors.

Shawn Reed has a background in physical and outdoor education. She spent three years in the Peace Corps in West Africa building community gardens and teaching preventative health education. Shawn has a new baby named Magnolia Sage and spends all her free time outdoors with her daughter and her partner Zach.
Jennifer Schulz is a Lead Teacher at the IT Site. She has a B.A. in Family Studies. She joined the CHCP family in 2007 and has been working with children for close to 20 years. Jennifer is the mother to two lovely daughters, the wife to Massimiliano, and the person to three cats and one dog.
I feel so fortunate to have found a place with CHCP. I love my co-workers and the families are fantastic. – Jennifer
Katherine Simonsen, lead teacher at the Preschool, graduated from UNC-CH in 1999 with a degree in Communication Studies and has accrued 30 hours of early childhood education courses. She is working toward a teaching license in Birth through Kindergarten Education at UNC-G’s Human Development and Family Studies/Special Education Services Graduate Program.
I was born and raised in North Carolina. I currently reside in Durham with my husband Mark (a former teacher at CHCP) and dog, Alice. I like to knit, play Scrabble, watch documentaries, and spend time with family and friends. – Katherine
Silva Stumpf joined CHCP in 2011. She grew up in Chapel Hill and has a B.A. in German from UNC-Chapel Hill as well as a Kindergarten/ Preschool Certification from Germany (a praxis-filled four year training in the Black Forest town of Freiburg.) After teaching preschool and kindergarten for four more years in Germany, she moved here and taught at the Frank Porter Graham Child Development Center for almost 5 years gaining experience with special needs/inclusion children. Finally, she taught at The Little School in Hillsborough, where she explored the tenets of the Reggio Emilia approach.
Mati Vassallo started at the preschool in 2015. She has her Bachelors in Science in Psychology, and plans to work toward a masters in early literacy education. Mati likes to cook, read, watch soccer, and do arts and crafts. She is a native of Peru, and speaks Spanish. Mati is married with two kids and a dog.
