What is a Cooperative School?

The Cooperative concept is based on parents taking an active role in their child's social and educational development. It provides an environment where children learn cooperation from the example of their parents and teachers working closely together. The experience gained in preschool participation also helps parents in acquiring the skills necessary to become effective advocates for their child's future educational experiences and opportunities.

Parents participate in the daily life and functions of the school by carrying out a wide range of tasks both during and outside school hours, as well as helping in the classroom and undertaking special projects. Opportunities for participation at the preschool are many and varied so all parents find their niche. View the participation handbook for more information.

Parents serve the children as active listeners, observers, and facilitators of play.
